Five unhurried nights in Cairo followed by a four-night Nile cruise upstream from Luxor to Aswan. The Cairo half pairs two full days of guided sightseeing - the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum, the Citadel of Saladin and Old Cairo - with two free days to explore at your own pace. The cruise then covers the Theban temples and tombs, Edfu, Kom Ombo, the High Dam and Philae, all with private shore excursions and your own Egyptologist guide.
Day 01: Arrival in Cairo (No meals)
Your tour begins at Cairo International Airport, where our representative meets you and assists with immigration and customs formalities. Once your luggage is collected you are driven to your Cairo hotel in a private vehicle.

Day 02: Cairo - Pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum (B)
After breakfast, a full day of sightseeing. The morning is spent at the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx - the most famous monuments of the ancient world, built around 4,500 years ago on a rocky desert plateau above the Nile. Lunch is at your own expense.
The afternoon is given to the Egyptian Museum: the treasures of King Tutankhamun, including his golden death mask, and room after room of artefacts spanning three thousand years.

Day 03: Cairo - Free Day (B)
Breakfast at the hotel, then a free day. Optional extras we can arrange include Memphis and Saqqara, a Nile dinner cruise with a folkloric show, or the sound and light show at the pyramids.

Day 04: Cairo - Citadel of Saladin and Old Cairo (B)
Breakfast, then a full day tour. The morning covers the Citadel of Saladin, including the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, the Military Museum and the Muhammad Ali Jewellery Museum. Lunch is at your own expense.
In the afternoon you visit Old Cairo - the Hanging Church, the Ben Ezra Synagogue and the Mosque of Amr Ibn Al-As, the oldest mosque in Africa - before returning to your hotel.

Day 05: Cairo - Free Day (B)
Breakfast at the hotel and a second free day in Cairo. A good day for the Khan El Khalili bazaar, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation, or simply a slower morning before the cruise.

Day 06: Cairo to Luxor - Nile Cruise Embarkation (B/L/D)
After breakfast you check out and transfer to the airport for the flight to Luxor, where roughly a third of the world's ancient monuments stand. Our representative meets you and takes you to your cruise boat - your floating hotel for the next four nights.
After lunch on board you visit the temples of Karnak and Luxor, returning to the boat for dinner.

Day 07: Nile Cruise - West Bank of Luxor (B/L/D)
Breakfast on board, then the West Bank: the tombs of the New Kingdom pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, the terraced mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir El-Bahri, and the Colossi of Memnon.
After lunch on board the boat departs Luxor and sails for Esna, with dinner served as you go.

Day 08: Nile Cruise - Edfu and Kom Ombo (B/D)
Breakfast as the boat crosses the Esna lock and sails on to Edfu, home of the Temple of Horus, the best-preserved temple in Egypt. After the visit you return to the boat, which sails towards Kom Ombo, and dinner is served on board.

Day 09: Nile Cruise - Kom Ombo and Aswan (B/L/D)
Your last day of sailing starts with breakfast and a visit to the double temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the gods Horus and Sobek. Back on board for lunch as the boat sails to Aswan.
Ashore, you visit the High Dam, the world's largest rock-filled dam, and the Temple of Philae, relocated to the island of Agilkia after the waters of Lake Nasser flooded its original site. Your final dinner is on the boat.

Day 10: Aswan and Departure (B)
Breakfast on board, then disembarkation and a felucca ride to the Botanical Gardens on Kitchener's Island. Afterwards you are taken to Aswan airport for the 55-minute flight back to Cairo, where our representative meets you and assists with your luggage before your onward departure.

• Children up to 6 years travel free sharing their parents' room (maximum one child per room); children aged 6 to 11 receive a 50% discount on the adult fare.
• The two domestic flights are not included and cost approximately US$200 per person - we can book these with your tour.
