Lesotho is an extraordinary country that provides spectacular mountain scenery, and a chance to experience the simplicity of a mountain people. This is an opportunity to explore nature still little changed by man, and unspoiled by crowds of tourists. Discover the Highlands of Lesotho via the breath-taking Sani Pass and experience the history and culture of the Basotho people who live as one with this extreme environment. Visit also, the Lowlands of Lesotho where altitude and climatic changes afford a completely different set of living conditions and lifestyle.

Day 1: Underberg – Mantsebo Lodge
We depart from Underberg at 8am and tackle the 4x4 drive up the legendary Sani Pass. Here you will learn all about the history, geology, flora & fauna as we wind your way up the pass through the Ukahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site and into the Kingdom of Lesotho.

After drinks break at the “Highest Pub in Africa” we make our way up Black Mountain Pass and down the beautiful Sehonghong river valley and on to the remote village of Makhupung.

Here we visit the resident traditional healer, observe a unique song & dance routine and a secret ceremonial dance. Interact and picnic lunch with the villagers. A true, once in a lifetime, cultural experience.

Our overnight stay is at ‘Mants’ebo Guesthouse, situated in the picturesque village of Thabang on the outskirts of the remote town of Mokhotlong. ‘Mants’ebo Guest House was once home to the Queen Regent ‘Mants’ebo Amelia Seeiso, the first and only woman to ever rule Lesotho; 1940 -1960. Each chalet is named after one of the wives of Seeiso. Here you will enjoy the comfort of a home away from home.

Day 2: ‘Mants’ebo – Underberg
Today we view the Spiral Aloe before a visit to the remote trading town of Mokhotlong, “Place of the Bald Ibis.” Its role as a police post first brought people to this part of Lesotho in 1905. It developed into a trading centre for the people of the Highlands region. Lunch at the Highest Pub in Africa (own cost). In case you missed any photo opportunities we travel back down the Sani Pass to Underberg. We return to Underberg at ± 5pm.
