Booking Palawan for Early 2027: Resorts, Seasons & What’s Included

Palawan keeps winning “world’s best island” polls, and the limestone lagoons of El Nido are the reason — but the thing to understand before you fall for the photos is the calendar: the dry season runs roughly December to May, the island resorts are small, and the best rooms for the first quarter of 2027 are being confirmed now. Here’s how booking Palawan actually works.

The lie of the land

Palawan is a long, thin province with three distinct bases. El Nido in the north is the marquee: karst cliffs, hidden lagoons, and a cluster of private-island resorts. Puerto Princesa, the gateway city, is a stop rather than a stay — its underground river day trip is the famous tick. Port Barton and San Vicente offer the quiet, longer-beach alternative for travellers dodging the scene. Most first-timers should aim their nights at El Nido and treat the rest as seasoning.

Island resort or town base?

The private-island resorts (sunset views like the one pictured are standard equipment) bundle overwater or beachfront rooms with boat transfers, meals and daily island-hopping — you pay resort prices for a genuinely closed-loop experience where the lagoons are minutes, not hours, away. El Nido town, by contrast, offers boutique hotels at a third of the price with the same public island-hopping circuits (Tours A through D, of which A and C are the classics) departing the beach each morning. Honeymooners and once-in-a-decade travellers: island resort. Younger, longer, looser trips: town base. Families: either, but check kids’ age policies — some island properties are adults-leaning.

What a Palawan package should include

  • Flights within the Philippines — Manila or Cebu to El Nido’s small airport (worth the premium) or Puerto Princesa plus the long van transfer.
  • Boat transfers to island properties, timed to your flights.
  • Island-hopping — resort-run private or town-based group tours, with lagoon entrance fees stated.
  • A weather plan — even dry season throws the odd squall; good itineraries keep a flex day.

The 2027 booking calendar

Dry-season demand peaks January through April — which collides with blossom-bound and ski-bound traffic through Asia, keeping flights firm. The island resorts (twenty to fifty rooms each) release and fill early: for a January–March 2027 trip, the comfortable window to confirm is now through October 2026. Later bookings land rooms, just rarely the overwater ones. Siargao surfing or Cebu diving bolt on naturally — our Cebu & Bohol dive guide covers the other half of a two-island Philippines trip.

Your questions answered

When is Palawan’s dry season?

Roughly December to May, with February–April the most reliably brilliant. June to October is wetter — mornings often shine, but island-hopping cancellations rise.

How far ahead do El Nido’s island resorts book out?

Four to eight months for dry season; the famous overwater categories go first. Q1 2027 is booking now.

Is Palawan good for families?

Yes for water-happy kids — lagoons, snorkelling, beaches. Check each resort’s age policy and boat-time tolerance; some islands suit teens better than toddlers.
